Barry Island is a small seaside resort not far from Cardiff. In 1965 Billy Butlin decided to build a holiday camp on the island at Nells Point. Building took place over the winter months and the camp opened its doors to the public on 18th June 1966. It was the last Butlins camp to be built and was also the smallest. A chairlift was installed in 1967. The camp led a relatively normal life until 1986 when Butlins announced on 29th October that the camp had no place in the companies' future. The camp remained open for the Christmas, and the last guests to leave the camp went on 27th December. The camp officially closed as a Butlins on 31st December 1986...
